Colour & Nature

Ashmore Valley

Colour is one of nature’s most immediate languages. It signals change, vitality and danger; attracts, warns and guides us. It is fundamental to life, influencing mood, behaviour and our relationship with the environments we inhabit.

I work intuitively, allowing colour to carry emotion as much as form. Layers accumulate, interact and conceal what lies beneath, reflecting the complexity and continual transformation of both nature and human experience.

Our relationship with colour is deeply embedded in our survival and wellbeing. It connects us to the natural world and shapes the quality of the spaces we live in. Through colour, I explore our enduring connection to nature and the cycles of growth, loss, adaptation and renewal that we share.

For me, colour is the main character. It invites us to feel before we interpret; to pause, to notice and to stay curious.

This is my painting of Ashmore Valley (left) that runs along Spring Creek, below my studio. It is vast, it is growing and changing and it is home to many Australian animals and species that thrive along the waterway that feeds into the sea.
